Companies in business with Orkusalan in 2022 are offered Orkusalan´s Green Light, which is a confirmation that all the electricity the company uses is 100% renewable with guarantees of origin according to international standards. Delivery of the Green Light for use in 2022 is available until 2023.

A Green company with Orkusalan
Orkusalan is the only energy company on the market that has carbon-neutralized its entire operation and is therefore the only carbon-neutral electricity sales company in Iceland.
Our electricity is produced exclusively with hydropower, and therefore all electricity from Orkusalan is produced with 100% renewable energy sources.
Guarantees of origin
Since 2016, guarantees of origin have accompanied Landsvirkjun's wholesale electricity, and this was reflected in Orkusalan's customers, who received guarantees of origin free of charge with their electricity purchases. The arrangements for guarantees of origin changed again at the beginning of 2023, when Landsvirkjun decided to define guarantees of origin as a special sales product and not deliver it through its wholesale but sell on the open market.
As a result of the changes, customers of Orkusalan must decide whether they want to buy electricity with guarantees of origin. We encourage our customers to make a conscious decision and familiarize themselves with the opportunities that are available.
