Palmi Sigurdsson, Station Manager of Lagarfoss Power Plant and Project Manager for Power Plants in East Iceland

Palmi has been working at Orkusalan since 2008 and has therefore been with the company for 15 years. Before that, he worked at RARIK in the same position and thus knows Orkusalan's power plants better than most. Palmi resides in the east where the weather is always good, but what does a typical workday look like for Palmi?

„I wake up fresh, have a cup of coffee. Then we log into the control systems of all the power plants we manage: Lagarfoss, Grimsar, Smyrla, and Rjukandi. We monitor operations and intervene as necessary, manage to maximize the production of Orkusalan's resources and then the operation forecast is input,“ says Palmi

Palmi also talks about regular morning meetings with the power plant employees where teams are split as necessary and meet at the plant where urgent tasks are.

„The tasks are numerous in maintenance and improvements of Orkusalan's flagships, which means that each power plant is unique and consists of many systems,“ says Palmi.

What Makes Orkusalan a Great Place to Work?

„What primarily makes Orkusalan a good and fun workplace is the great diversity of tasks: one day you are connecting a control machine and figuring out a fault in a timer or replacing a shaft seal and bearings in a motor. The next day you might be opening a reservoir or measuring flow in a river which is a potential power plant option, and everything in between. These are often challenging tasks but diverse and enjoyable. That’s why Orkusalan is a great workplace, in addition to having short and efficient communication lines,“ says Palmi

What is Fun for You?

„Fun is a gathering of friends or family of any kind with good music and perhaps a little drink,“ says Palmi who not only keeps the fun going in the power plants but also throughout East Iceland!
